BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Woodrow Wilson High School is gearing up to host its first-ever Senior Class Expo, marking a milestone event for the school and community.
The expo will be held Thursday, August 3rd from 4-8 PM and Friday, August 4th from 8 AM-Noon.
This innovative expo aims to provide a one-stop shop for families of WWHS seniors, especially those belonging to the Class of 2024, to equip them with the necessary resources and support as they approach their final year of high school and transition into higher education or the workforce.
The event promises to be a hub of valuable information and opportunities for both students and their families.
A wide array of colleges, including institutions such as Fairmont State, WVU, Bluefield State, and New River Community & Technical College, will be present, offering families the chance to engage with representatives and arrange future campus visits.
In addition to the academic aspect, the Woodrow Wilson Senior Expo will also feature a delightful culinary experience with local food trucks on-site, including Beckley Sno Biz, Hill Top, Taco De Marcos, Sugar Attack, The Cake Box, and BBQ Riot.
Families can savor delicious treats while exploring the various offerings at the expo, which will be available exclusively on August 3rd.
Shanna Casto, one of the counselors at Woodrow Wilson High School, expressed her excitement about the event, stating, “We are having an Expo for families where they can come speak with several vendors that will help them with everything senior year. We are treating this event as their last hooah, before their last.”
WWHS will also have a ‘The Class of 2024’ banner to sign as well as a banner for ‘WWHS Alumni’ that the school will proudly hang in the school and at the football field for homecoming.
The expo will offer comprehensive assistance to families regarding financial aid, with personnel available to address any queries related to completing the FAFSA in December.
Furthermore, BAF will provide vital information on scholarships that students can apply for through their organization. Jostens, on the other hand, will showcase cap and gown packages, along with facilitating class ring orders for interested parents.
The event also caters to students’ practical needs, as several photographers will be present to schedule senior pictures for those who have not yet done so. Additionally, a few businesses will be present to discuss employment opportunities that offer scholarships or college payment options while being employed.
Students will receive their schedules during the expo, while counselors will be on hand to assist families with graduation requirements.
First Place Printing will exclusively be present on August 3rd to take orders for Letterman jackets, and numerous other community resources will also be accessible for families attending the event.
Access Health will be at the event to administer Senior shots. Complying with state law, students will have the opportunity to get their shots prior to the first day of school, ensuring their health and safety during their senior year.
The school nurse will be available to collect any shot records that parents would like to turn in prior to the start of school.
“This is the first time any school in Raleigh County has put together anything like this,” Casto said. “We, at Woodrow, want to make the transition into senior year seamless for families while allowing students to know of resources that can help them once they walk across that stage in May.”
