CLEAR FORK, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Westside High School hosted students from six counties across the state Saturday for the West Virginia Regional Social Studies Fair.
The event saw 170 projects from 266 students showcased before a packed house of family, friends, educators, and other guests who made their way out to Wyoming County to show their support for the fair’s participants.
Coordinated by Director of Federal and Learning Enrichment Programs at the Wyoming County Board of Education Keith Stewart, the event featured three student divisions in which entrants’ projects were judged on physical display, written abstract, and a five-minute oral presentation. Students to make it to Regionals were those to place first in their respective categories at School and County levels beforehand.
Topics taken on by participating students included World History, US History, State and Local History, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Economics, Geography, and Anthropology. Projects were featured from students hailing from Region I, which comprises Wyoming County, Mercer County, Monroe County, McDowell County, Summers County, and Raleigh County.
These students participated either individually or in groups, and were placed into one of three divisions based on grade level. These divisions included Elementary (grades 3 – 5), Middle School (grades 6 – 8), and High School (grades 9 – 12).
Students in other regions presented earlier in the month with the exception of Region VIl, which is set to present on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.
Those who claimed first place in their respective categories on Saturday will advance to the State level of competition. These students will present at the West Virginia State Social Studies Fair, which is set to be held on April 14, 2023 at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
