Bessie Lee Sartin Baisden, 81, of Lenore, WV joined her husband Clayton “Cap” Baisden, in their heavenly home on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Bessie was born in Marrowbone, WV on April 9, 1943, to the late Lee and Bessie (Newsome) Sartin. She graduated from Kermit High School in 1961. She was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters: Homer, Lonnie, Lee Jr., Raymond, Cletus, Eula, Barbara, Hershel, and Odell. Bessie walked with the Lord for nearly 50 years. She currently attended Lighthouse Community Church. She was a devoted and loyal secretary at Lenore Grade School, later Lenore K-8 for 35 years until she retired, leaving a profound mark on many kids and her community.
Bessie was an avid Tug Valley Panthers fan, rarely missing a game. She was blessed to witness all 4 state basketball championship wins. When you couldn’t find her playing cards late into the night with many of her dear friends, you could find her reading a good book or watching the Golden Girls. Bessie perused travelling with great enthusiasm throughout her life, often accompanied by her nieces, her sister, or a host of close friends.
Bessie’s greatest treasure was her family. She had a host of nieces and nephews who she showed unwavering support to throughout all their lives. She is survived by her 2 loving sons, Robert “Smitty” (Angie) Baisden and Scott (Rachel) Baisden, and 3 granddaughters, Kristen (Dustin) Conley, Emily (Austin) Banks, and Candace Maynard. She is also survived by her sister, Betty (“Oddie”) Farley, who was her very best friend and confidant. She was over the moon to soon become a great grandmother to Gia Brooke Banks.
