Charleston – The move to Class AAA did little to deter Bridgeport from it’s norm – making state championship games.
The Indians scored five runs in the top of the third inning, beating Jefferson 7-5 in the Class AAA semifinals Thursday at Power Park in Charleston.
Errors doomed Jefferson as a dropped ball at the plate led to a cascade of miscues. When the smoke cleared the Indians led 5-0, but Jefferson wasn’t without its opportunities.
The Cougars stranded runners in scoring position in fifth and sixth innings with opportunities to tie the game both times.
After Jefferson made it a 5-3 game in the bottom of the fifth, Bridgeport answered with two in the top of the 6th to ultimately put the game away.
The Indians advance to Saturday’s Class AAA championship where they’ll play Hurricane in pursuit of their seventh straight championship with the previous six coming in Class AA.
