ST. ALBANS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Society (C&OHS) is inviting the public to witness firsthand the developments taking place at the St. Albans Depot.
The unique historic structure, preserved by the City of St. Albans, is currently undergoing a transformation into an interpretive museum and O-scale model train layout. The event is scheduled for this Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM.
Dedicated volunteers from the C&O Historical Society will be on-site during the event, engaging in their work and extending warm greetings to visitors. The depot, a cherished relic of the past, will serve as a backdrop for this engaging experience, where history and railroading enthusiasts can witness progress being made on the ambitious project.
At the heart of the showcase is the O-scale layout, a marvel that stands at 80% completion. This impressive exhibit, located in western Kanawha County, promises an immersive experience for the public to enjoy.
The layout’s intricate benchwork forms a solid foundation for the immersive exhibit, capturing the essence of the region’s history and its ties to the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad.
Adding to the allure of the event, custom posters crafted by the renowned Base Camp Printing Company in Charleston will be available for purchase. These posters pay homage to the iconic passenger car “Chessie 29,” a symbol deeply entwined with West Virginia’s rich history.
Proceeds from the sale of these posters will contribute to the fundraising campaign dedicated to restoring the historic “Chessie 29” rail car.
Attendees will also have the unique opportunity to acquire an exclusive piece of Blenko glassware, commemorating the storied history of the City of St. Albans. With limited quantities available, collectors and history enthusiasts are urged to seize the chance to own this exquisite piece.
For those seeking a deeper connection to the railroad legacy, an assortment of railroad books and memorabilia will be offered. Proceeds from these sales will contribute to the ongoing efforts at the St. Albans Depot, ensuring the preservation of its historical significance.
The event promises to be an interactive experience, with knowledgeable railroaders, both current and retired, on hand to answer questions and share captivating stories spanning the timeline from the C&O Railway era to the present-day Amtrak operations.
The St. Albans Depot is located at 400 4th Ave, St Albans, WV 25177.
