BARBOURSVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Words of encouragement and condolences continued to.pour in this week as final services were set for the late Cabell County Commissioner and Barboursville Mayor Nancy Cartmill.
Cartmill, 79, passed away Tuesday after an extended illness. Her passing brought words of praise across the partisan political divide. From U.S. Senators to fellow county commissioners, others saw the dedicated wife, mother and grandmother as a natural leader committed to those she represented.
Cartmill’s courage — even in the face of the daunting illness that eventually claimed her life — was seen as an indication of her dedication to the public good.
Fellow Commissioner Kelli Sabonya, like Cartmill a Republican, called her an “iconic public servant.”
Cartmill was the first female mayor of Barboursville, where she served for eight years. She then served on the county commission.
Cartmill remained actively involved in county commission meetings until the time of her death, often attending meetings electronically (by telephone).
Fellow citizens, friends and constituents will have the opportunity to say farewell to Cartmill both today (Saturday) and tomorrow.
Visitation is set for today, 5 to 8 p.m., at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m., tomorrow (Sunday) at Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel. Burial will follow at Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington.
Memorial donations are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
