HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday for the newly renovated Central City gazebo Park on 14th Street West.
A $486,000 investment in the city’s West End, the project was funded through contributions from the City of Huntington ($350,000,) RenewAll ($136,000,) the Foundation for the Tri-State America’s Best Community fund ($50,000,) Chase Bank ($30,000,) the Huntington Foundation ($20,000,) the 21st Century Endowment Foundation ($5,000,) a corporate donation ($5,000,) and $26,000 from a private donation.
$50,000 was also received by RenewAll from T-Mobile’s Hometown Grant Program in support of the installation of captivating public art sculptures, enhancing the beauty and cultural significance of the park.
Improvements featured in the newly presented Gazebo Park include pedestrian-scale lights to illuminate the park area, brick planters, shade trees to encourage more active usage and and new seating, a new clock tower to replace the broken one, electric upgrades to accommodate food trucks and musical events, and the plumbing was upgraded to provide ease of water access, additional storm water drainage was added, and a set of stairs along the rear of the gazebo to connect the gazebo with the new Bob Bailey Senior Wellness Center that is under construction.
“Central City always has been a vibrant commercial district, but the activity that has occurred on 14th Street West in recent years has been invigorating to watch,” Huntington Mayor Steve Williams said, noting the city’s partnership with RenewAll in the facilitating of the improvements made to the park.
“The City of Huntington was proud to partner with RenewAll on the improvements to the gazebo and surrounding area, as they will enhance the annual festivals and community events that are drawing more people to 14th Street West.”
