Charles Elbert Shawver, 88, of Grassy Meadows passed away on August 26, 2023, at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley.
Born on December 6, 1934, in Grassy Meadows; he was the son of the late Roy B. Shawver and Icy Mabel Cadle Shawver.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Charles Timothy (Lita) Shawver; brothers, Clell Shawver, Gordon (Lou) Cadle, James (Thelma) Shawver; sisters, Helen (John) Gillespie and Kathryn (Cledith) Gillespie.
Charles was raised on a farm and went to school in Dawson. He served in the US army where he was stationed in Fort Knox, KY. This is where Charles met the love of his life, Betty. Charles and Betty Jean Rigdon Shawver were married on September 21, 1959, in Shawneetown, IL and Charles faithfully adored her for almost 64 years. Charles worked as a coal miner and heavy equipment operator for many years. He was a member of the Union Local 132 Operating Engineers. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed his summers camping with his family and his dogs.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Betty Jean Shawver; children, Ronald (Sherry) Shawver of Grassy Meadows, Keith (Cindy) Shawver of Millsboro, DE, Paul (Dee-Dee) Shawver of Grassy Meadows and Sarah Warwick of WV; grandchildren, Michael Ammermon, Ashley Temple, Amanda Shawver, Mathew Ammermon, Brittany Palmer, Heather Adams, Charles W. Shawver, Amber Pennell, Riley Smith and Alex Smith; many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; siblings, William (Carolyn) Shawver of Norwalk, OH, Jean Shawver of Alexandria, VA, Mary (Clyde) Green of OH and Rita Fitzwater of Collins, OH.
Service will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Wallace Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, Clintonville with Mr. Randy Forren officiating.
