RICHWOOD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Monongahela National Forest is thrilled to announce the much-awaited annual Cranberry Fun Day, set to take place on Saturday, July 29, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center.
This family-friendly event promises an exciting array of activities and programs for nature enthusiasts of all ages.
The festivities will commence with a special celebration in honor of Smokey Bear’s 79th birthday, starting at noon. Guests are invited to indulge in a delicious cake and refreshing punch while capturing cherished memories with Smokey Bear through a photo session.
After lunch, attendees will have the opportunity to partake in a variety of engaging nature activities and programs. Learn about the indigenous fish species that inhabit the area, and gain valuable insights into the techniques employed by skilled firefighters to combat wildland fires.
Additionally, visitors will have the privilege of contributing to the spirit of the season by crafting ornaments for the 2023 U.S. Capitol Christmas tree. Best of all, admission to all these activities is entirely free of charge.
At 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., wildlife expert Roy Moose will captivate the audience with his enthralling presentation, “Snakes of West Virginia.” This educational and interactive session promises to be both entertaining and enlightening.
Diana Stull, the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center Director, expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating, “The Cranberry Fun Day is just that, a lot of fun! Come early, bring a picnic lunch, and spend the whole day. It’s enjoyable for all ages!”
The Cranberry Mountain Nature Center, conveniently located at the intersection of State Route 39/55 and Forest Road 150 (Highland Scenic Highway), is approximately 14 miles west of Marlinton and 23 miles east of Richwood.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the wonders of the nature center from Thursday to Monday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., throughout the fall season. Please note that the center is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
