ELKINS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – In response to challenging weather and road conditions, the Monongahela National Forest has announced an extension of the deadline for applying for a special use permit.
This permit pertains to the operation and maintenance of government-owned boat rental facilities at the Lake Sherwood Recreation Area.
Additionally, the on-site visit related to this opportunity has been rescheduled.

All submissions must be directed to the Forest Supervisor, Attention: Lands Program Manager, at 200 Sycamore Street, Elkins, WV 26241.
The new deadline for applications is the close of business (4:30 p.m.) on February 16, 2024.
The on-site visit to the boat rental concession area is now scheduled for January 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
Participants are requested to meet at the Lake Sherwood entrance station.
Lake Sherwood Recreation Area, situated adjacent to the 165-acre man-made Lake Sherwood, is ten miles northeast of Neola, WV, in the Marlinton-White Sulphur Ranger District.
Accessible via paved WV Highway 14 and located thirty miles from Interstate-64, the boat rental area is conveniently positioned near the public boat ramp in the beach/day use area.
The Lake Sherwood boat rental permit area encompasses various facilities, including a boat rental registration and storage building with electrical service, a parking area, concrete boat ramp, floating courtesy dock, shade shelter with bench, a double trash can, and approximately 0.25 acres of grounds.
Successful applicants will also enjoy a campsite with electric service and water at no cost.
The permit holder is expected to operate the boat rental area fully from the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day.
