MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS)– The Mercer County Commission rejected three bids presented about building an amphitheater at Glenwood Park.
Commissioner Greg Puckett says lumber and labor costs are too high right now. The commission’s ideal stage is a 45 feet wide, 35 feet long, 25 feet deep, large trapezoid-shaped amphitheater.
“The labor and materials costs came back so high. We’ve been through Covid; we’ve seen the shortages,” said Puckett.
According to Puckett, one bid came in at around $230,000, and the other two were over $300,000.
The commission decided to hold off until the springtime, where they’ll welcome new bids.
“We want to be able to have something for future use. If we build it, we might as well build it right the first time. Let’s not waste time, energy, or money on anything that’s not going to suit our needs 20 years from now,” said Puckett.
