BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A mother and daughter were arrested early Sunday after police say they found the pair engaged in a physical fight inside a vehicle outside a Beckley hotel.
According to the Beckley Police Department, officers responded to the Smart Hotel on Harper Road on July 26, 2026, following a report of a disturbance.
When officers arrived, they reportedly found Hannah Hilbert and Andrea Craigo, who were later identified as mother and daughter, actively fighting inside a car. Police said both women had each other by the hair while simultaneously throwing punches.
Officers separated the two and began investigating the incident. According to the criminal complaint, Craigo appeared to be heavily intoxicated and was detained while officers attempted to determine what had happened.
Police said Hilbert also showed signs of intoxication, including a strong odor of alcohol and slurred speech. Officers reported they were unable to obtain a clear account of the incident, as Hilbert allegedly could not clearly state her name, birth date, or explain what had led to the altercation.
When officers interviewed Craigo, they reported similar observations. According to the complaint, she also had a strong odor of alcohol, struggled to provide basic identifying information, and was unable to explain why the fight had occurred.
During the investigation, officers observed minor injuries on both women, including small cuts to their faces and blood droplets on their clothing. Each woman allegedly accused the other of throwing the first punch and claimed the other was the aggressor.
Because both women were reportedly highly intoxicated, uncooperative, and were observed actively fighting when officers arrived, police took both into custody.
A review of their criminal histories reportedly showed no prior domestic battery convictions. As a result, both Hilbert and Craigo were charged with first-offense domestic battery. Police also stated they were taken into custody for public intoxication.
The incident remains under the jurisdiction of the Raleigh County court system
