BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Community members are coming together this weekend to raise funds through New River Community & Technical College’s 13th annual Volleyball 4 Autism event.
Set to take place Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 9:00 am, the event will generate funds which will go toward the Un-Prescription Foundation for Autism, Inc.
Community members have registered and will comprise the event’s teams, which will be divided into ‘beginner’ and ‘experienced’ categories.
‘Beginner’ and ‘experienced’ teams will occupy separate sides of the gymnasium. ‘Winners’ and ‘losers’ brackets will be featured, with 2 losses constituting elimination. Upon elimination, team members may choose to leave the event, or join as spectators.
Teams which feature both male and female players must have either an even number of men and women, or more women than men. It will not be permitted to include more men than women on teams featuring both men and women.
Team registration will be available up until the day of the event, with a cost of $150 for at-the-door registration.
Players may arrive as early as 8:00 am, and must arrive with the entire team present before entering. “Battle for the net” teams will be given priority for entry, as they will need to be ready before other teams.
Upon entry and sign-in, numbers will be drawn to determine which teams compete against one another throughout the event. Matchups are subject to change based on registration, absences, and walk-in teams. Player waivers must be signed by each team member before they can participate in the activities.
Games initially will operate within a best of 3 format, and the championship game will utilize a best of 5 format.
There will be a $500 scholarship awarded to one New River CTC applicant during the event.
Memorial Baptist Church at 1405 S. Kanawha, Beckley will serve as the event venue, and spectator admission will be $2. The event will feature concessions as well as a silent auction, raffle, and t-shirt sale.
