OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Oak Hill Middle School Dance was brought to an abrupt end Friday after a 911 call was made reporting an alleged threat.
Fayette County Schools issued a statement Friday night detailing the events of the evening.
“During the Oak Hill Middle School dance this evening, a call was made to the 911 center about an alleged threat at the dance.”
Though an investigation by authorities on scene indicated no discernible threat, the event was canceled “out of an abundance of caution.”
“Law enforcement were notified and responded. After an investigation it was found that there was no substantiated threat of any kind,” the statement continues. “Out of an abundance of caution, the dance was canceled and the students were allowed to leave after being signed out by an adult.”
Fayette County Schools also thanked the parents of Oak Hill students, along with law enforcement who responded to the call.
“We would like to thank our parents for being patient while we ensured that each child was accounted for and signed A special thank you to law enforcement for their rapid response to ensure the safety of children in Fayette County.”
This incident comes just days after a flood of fraudulent calls reporting false threats affected a significant number of West Virginia schools Tuesday, an incident which is currently under investigation by the West Virginia State Police.
