SAINT ALBANS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One teen is in critical condition following a shooting on Saturday evening.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, September 9, 2023, just before 6:30 p.m., deputies were dispatched to investigate a shooting at Go-Mart, 206 West Main Street in Saint Albans.
Deputies responded to the scene to find one male victim had been shot in the chest. The victim, a 19-year-old male from Saint Albans was transported to CAMC General Hospital with critical injuries.
Investigators with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Section responded to the scene and detectives have learned an altercation took place between the victim and the suspect, 25-year-old Jonathan Bradley Smith of Saint Albans.
During the altercation, the victim and suspect got physical with one another before the suspect pulled out a firearm and fired a single shot which struck the victim in the chest.
The suspect left the scene before the deputies’ arrival but was located a short time later when he admitted to investigators that he shot the victim during the altercation.
The suspect, Johnathan Smith has been placed under arrest for one felony count of Malicious or Unlawful Assault.

Smith is currently at South Central Regional Jail on a $50,000 bond.
