BERKELEY COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Public Service Commission of West Virginia on Wednesday approved construction of a 100-megawatt solar energy facility in Berkeley County.
The order canceled a hearing scheduled for March 21.
Bedington Energy Facility, LLC, applied for the solar siting certificate on December 8, 2023, to locate the plant on the former DuPont Potomac River Works explosives manufacturing facility in Berkeley County.
Bedington wants to construct the plant on 650 acres. The proposed purchase site is 1,037 acres.
The estimated project investment is $135 million. The company said the project would result in the creation of up to 200 construction jobs.
The Commission received one letter in favor of the plant and none in protest.
“The Commission concludes that the project is not contrary to public interest due to its positive economic impact to Berkeley County and the state,” the Commission ruled.
Bedington is a Delaware subsidiary of Torch Clean Energy of Charlottesville, VA.
The life expectancy of the solar plant is more than 35 years.
