RAVENSWOOD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A recently resigned Jackson County Schools employee has been arrested for sex crimes against at least one underage student.
According to Jackson County Sheriff Ross Mellinger, information was received by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at roughly 11:20pm on the night of Thursday, November 16, 2023, regarding alleged sexual misconduct.
An investigation began immediately, and Sheriff’s Deputies were on site at Ravenswood High School by 7:00am on Friday morning, with the employee in question having been removed from the premises by 9:00am.
The investigation was led by Detective Fisher and Detective Baldwin of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Detective Garrett of the Ravenswood Police Department, with assistance by SHIELD Program Coordinator Tom Speece and School Resource Officer Bobby Knox.
Sheriff Mellinger confirmed that the suspect – identified as Brent Jones, 33 years old – was taken into custody on Friday afternoon and is no longer employed as a member of the Jackson County School system. Jones reportedly faces two counts of Sexual Conduct with a Student.
“These individuals need to understand they’re not going to win when they mess with our children,” said Sheriff Mellinger. “They cannot and will not manipulate and molest our school children.”
