Ron Gregory brings a unique perspective to political news and opinion coverage. Educated as a journalist at Glenville State College and Marshall University, he became Mayor of Glenville in 1977 at age 26. That was the beginning of a 45-year career alternately working in public service and as a journalist.
It is that background that makes his perspective different than most other political pundits.
His first newspaper work was at The Glenville Pathfinder, where he eventually served as editor. In the intervening years, he served as editor, sports editor, and columnist at several state daily and weekly newspapers and worked with the iconic Jim Comstock at the West Virginia Hillbilly in Richwood.
“I learned more from Comstock in an hour than I learned in all my other paper jobs combined,” he said. *And I’ve worked with some good journalists.”
After his stint as Mayor of his hometown, Gregory’s additional public service included being Kanawha County Administrator, Manager of the Greater St. Albans Public Service District, Assistant Mayor of Charleston, and board member of the Lincoln PSD.
Gregory lives in St. Albans and has two sons and five grandchildren living nearby to brighten his life.
“I’m known as eccentric … well, crazy … but I call them as I see them,” he summed up his writing philosophy.
