RUPERT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Town of Rupert announced the passing of Chief Burkhamer last week following an extensive battle with cancer.
The news comes just over a month after Burkhamer’s announcement that he would be stepping down as Chief to focus on his family and health in the wake of a Stage 4 diagnosis.
“It is with deep sadness that the Town of Rupert Police Department announces the passing of our Chief of Police, Charles, “Chuck” Burkhamer,” read a statement from the Town of Rupert.
”Chief Burkhamer lost his battle with cancer yesterday, September 26th, and leaves behind a loving family and community that will miss him greatly. We respectfully request that you keep his entire family in your thoughts.”
Burkhamer had an extensive career in law enforcement, coming onboard with the Town of Rupert Police Department in 2021 following time spent as Chief of Police for the City of Richwood, Sergeant at Smithers Police Department, and as an officer in Gauley Bridge and Clendenin.
“Rupert is a special place. I couldn’t ask for a better mayor or town council to have worked for,” he said in August. “The citizens of this town are second to none. When you need them, they always deliver.”
News of the significant loss was also confirmed by Chief Burkhamer’s wife, Jessica, who indicated that a celebration of the life of her late husband will be held on October 20, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Bascom United Methodist Church located at 208 Church Street in Rupert, WV.
