SURRY COUNTY, NC (LOOTPRESS) – On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at approximately 2:07 am, the Surry County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division was dispatched with the Surry County Emergency Medical Services to the address of 353 Brooklyn Trail, Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, about a fall. Before the deputy’s arrival, the deputies received information that Allen Gray Beamon, 62, of 353 Brooklyn Trail, Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, was threatening harm to himself as well as to any law enforcement officers responding.
Deputies arrived at the residence to find Mr. Beamon armed with a handgun. Deputies provided numerous verbal commands to Mr. Beamon to drop the weapon that he had in his possession. Sheriff Steve C. Hiatt indicated Mr. Beamon raised the handgun toward the deputies on the scene and fired. Deputies discharged their firearms, striking Mr. Beamon. Additional law enforcement officers from the Pilot Mountain Police Department arrived on the scene to assist. The deputies and the Pilot Mountain Police Officer immediately started caring for Mr. Beamon. Surry County Emergency Medical Services started emergency medical care and transported Mr. Beamon to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
The Surry County Sheriff’s Office contacted the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations. The NCSBI is investigating the officer-involved shooting, which is standard procedure. The deputies involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the internal investigation.
Mr. Beamon was treated and released from Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for a gunshot wound.
According to Sheriff Steve C. Hiatt, Mr. Beamon was arrested for two counts of assault with a deadly weapon intent to kill, two counts of assault by pointing a gun, and two counts of resisting a public officer. Mr. Beamon is in the Surry County Detention Center under a $1,000,000.00 secured bond with a March 20, 2024, court date.
This incident is still under investigation, and all questions should be directed to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations. The Surry County Sheriff’s Office will not release any other information at this time.
