BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – United Way of Southern West Virginia (UWSWV) is our community’s resource of resources, responding to the greatest needs in southern West Virginia.
This dedication to giving back to our community requires hard work and a community of donors willing to help raise up those who are most vulnerable. While UWSWV has raised 91% of its $850,000 fundraising goal for this year’s campaign, it still must raise nearly $68,000 by the end of spring to fund life-changing work conducted daily by UWSWV and its community partners. If United Way’s fundraising efforts reach $800,000, this year’s Campaign Family of Todd and Rachel Cornett have pledged to help us accomplish the goal of $850,000.
Trena Dacal, Executive Director of United Way of Southern West Virginia said, “The impact made by United Way’s reinvestment in our communities can only be compared to the commitment of our community partners who are providing support to the residents of southern West Virginia. We have proudly partnered with thirty local community organizations in 2024 to bring vital resources to the people of our area. It is only possible through the generosity of our community.”
With the help of our community in southern West Virginia, UW can raise the $18,000 needed to receive the additional funds pledged by the Todd and Rachel Cornett Family. UWSWV and its community partners are extremely grateful to all those who have already contributed. With time running out in this campaign, UWSWV remains hopeful that the community will step up and contribute the dollars needed to get it across this year’s finish line. 100% of your donation stays local and directly funds those programs and organizations approved by the United Way Board of Directors.
Todd and Rachel Cornett of this year’s Campaign Family said, “As a family, we are blessed. There isn’t a day that we do not live thankful for all we have. As Christians, we believe it is our honor and duty to care for those less fortunate. We volunteer our time through various avenues, whether it be coaching, taking children into our home from other states and countries, reading in local schools, being partners in education for elementary schools in areas that serve children living in poverty, and serving on local non-profit boards. When we learned about the impact of UWSWV, we recognized an opportunity to further our reach. As Campaign Family and by serving on the United Way board, we see the vetting process nonprofits experience to be partially funded by our local United Way. It is our duty as board members to make sure that money donated to the UW gets into the hands of the community non-profits that are doing good in small communities where the need for food, shelter, shoes, clothing, baby items, and other vital basic human needs are met. Most recently, when a disastrous tornado struck the Hico area of Fayette County, we were in touch with those in that community seeing how the United Way could help. Our family stands with the United Way as they make certain that our seniors, veterans, children, those living in poverty, and anyone who needs a hand up, has access. We never want anyone in Southern West Virginia to experience hopelessness.”
The UWSWV’s success depends directly on our donors and volunteers, who impact our focus and outreach efforts. UWSWV encourages all local residents, businesses, and municipalities to invest in our communities by helping us meet our campaign goal. With everyone working together, this community-driven movement will continue to identify and meet existing social needs and develop the strategies necessary for building a better future for all those residing in southern West Virginia.
“United Way of Southern West Virginia is an integral part of our community,” said Jonathan Grose, United Way Board Chairman. “United Way is a funding partner for resources that allow our communities to prosper and grow. With United Way’s continued support in southern West Virginia, we will be able to invest in future generations for sustainability while meeting the needs of our smallest members.”
