WEIRTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Sales, Service, and Distribution Associate Sandra “Sandy” Gajtka knows a thing or two about having a long career. On Apr. 25, she celebrated her 50-year anniversary with the Postal Service.
The Weirton Post Office, 317 Penco Rd., held a presentation event on Tuesday, May 2 at 9:00 a.m. to honor Gajtka. Coworkers and postal officials were in attendance to recognize her 50 years of dedicated service, including USPS Central Area Vice President Eric Henry; Kentucky-West Virginia District Manager Randy Stines; and Acting Manager, Postal Operations Beth Jungels.
“I worked my entire career at the Weirton Post Office. I met my husband here. I have been very active with USPS. I was the American Postal Workers Union steward from 1974 – 2000 and was president from 2000-2013. My daughter once told me that she couldn’t remember a vacation that wasn’t at a union convention or seminar. I would like to thank the Postal Service and the APWU. I have been very blessed,” said Gajtka.
Postmaster Pete Melnyk sings Gajtka’s praises and her amazing work ethic, calling her “The Captain of the Weirton Team!”
