OCEANA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Details have been announced regarding one of the Wyoming County community’s most highly anticipated annual events, the Westside High School Homecoming Parade.
The parade has been scheduled to take place at 5:00pm on Thursday, September 28, 2023, with the lineup beginning at Oceana Middle School.
The parade will be led by Westside High School, with additional participants from surrounding feeder schools following behind. All participants will pull off at the old Magic Mart location or continue traveling to Westside High School in Clear Fork.
Lineup for the parade will begin no earlier than 3:45pm with participants to be dropped off at the top of the Oceana Middle School parking lot area. Vehicles for participants should be parked at the Berlin McKinney parking area, and only vehicles being used in the parade itself will be permitted to drive down into the Oceana Middle School parking area.
The Wyoming County Board of Education announced on Tuesday that participating feeder schools – which will include Berlin McKinney, Huff Consolidated, Baileysville Elementary, Baileysville Middle, Road Branch Elementary, Road Branch Middle, Oceana Middle, and Glen Fork – will be released from school three hours early on Thursday, September 28, 2023, so as to allow participants to prepare for the parade.
“We are so excited to celebrate our annual Homecoming festivities! Wyoming County Schools unite our communities in several ways but none quite as large or exciting as Homecoming,” said the Wyoming County BOE in a statement.
“This is a cherished tradition that many communities only dream of conducting. Through hard work and numerous volunteers, our schools execute outstanding parades.”
Wyoming East High School has announced a tentative date for its own Homecoming Parade, which at the time of writing is set to take place on October 19, 2023. Feeder schools for this event – including Pineville Middle, Pineville Elementary, Herndon Consolidated, Mullens Elementary, Mullens Middle, and Glen Fork – will also see three hour early releases on the day of the Wyoming East High School Homecoming Parade in order to allow for participants to make preparations for the event.
