BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Members of the community are invited to partake in a special event from the West Virginia Institute of Technology later this week as the facility hosts its Light Up Tech ceremony.
Scheduled to take place on Friday, December 1, 2023, the Light Up Tech ceremony will act as a celebration of the holiday season.
Beginning at 6:00pm on Friday, attendees may gather throughout the front lawn area of Carter Hall at the WVU Tech campus, located on South Kanawha Street in Beckley. Also featured will be refreshments and an ugly sweater contest, and Santa himself will be on hand for photos with guests.
The ceremony itself is set to begin at 6:30pm on Friday and continue until 8:00pm. The first 200 WVU Tech students to arrive at the event with a valid student I.D. Will receive a free gift.
In other WVU Tech news, it was recently announced that two of the school’s faculty members have received funding to improve the experiences of students in their respective disciplines.
Dr. Jemma Cook, Assistant Professor of Psychology, has received $16,008 for the establishment of an animal model of drug self-administration, which will assist students in the understanding of issues pertaining to substance abuse.
Dr. Winnie Fu, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, has reportedly received $39,600 set to be used for “COBOT: Undergraduate Collaborative Robotics Curriculum Development.”
The COBOT slated for purchase will be a FANUC CRX-i5A industrial collaborative robot, which will be utilized in the enhancement of WVU Tech’s manufacturing automation curriculum.
