Fans of DC Comics will be excited to see the release of Gotham Knights on Friday, October 21st. From Warner Brothers Games, Gotham Knights are set after the death of Batman. It is an open-world action RPG and is scheduled for release on Xbox Series X/S, Playstation 5, and PC. The game has a lot to live up to as Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham series of games was much loved in the DC game universe.
In the time after Batman, Gotham City is under attack from the criminal underground in his absence. The Court of Owls is looking to take over the city and players are tasked to stop the takeover while they play the four members of the extended bat family: Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and the Red Hood. The characters are all assigned their own special abilities based on their back-story. Players can switch between characters seamlessly since they share experience and level-up together. Even better, players can switch between solo play and online co-op play to explore the world in teams. The story moves along while characters search for and examine evidence and analyze crime scene information to find and defeat the Gotham villains. There is no shortage of epic villains or epic battles either, with the appearance of icons like Mr. Freeze, Harley Quinn, and Clay Face.
WB Games hyped up their fan base with the new trailer “What is Gotham Knights?” released on October 18th. There is also the promise of a rich back-story with DC Comics releasing a 6 issue prequel series “Batman: Gotham Knights- Gilded City” on October 25th. For those who haven’t seen the trailer, it is viewable on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieaRzxVnHmw.
The game is being offered on pre-order in three different versions. The standard edition includes the base game and during pre-order includes the 233 Kustom Batcycle skin. The skin is based on the original appearance of the Batcycle in issue 233 of DC Detective Comics. The Deluxe version includes the same content with the addition of digital bonuses including an exclusive transmog, gear bonuses, and an exclusive emote. The final pre-order iteration, the Collector’s Edition, with a price tag of $299.99, is already sold out at many retailers.
