PHILIPPI, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Barbour County Sheriff’s Office has a new home as they officially moved into a new building in Philippi Wednesday.
The Barbour County Commission along with the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office officially announced the opening of the New Sheriff’s Office located at the old Barbour Chiropractic Center, almost directly across from Philippi City Hall.
The new address for the sheriff’s office is 206 South Main Street, Philippi, WV 26416.
“This is an exciting time for our Sheriff’s Office as we continue to grow! We currently have 12 deputies with 13 positions allotted for the department. At one point in the courthouse, we had nine deputies located in one office,” the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office stated in a press release.
“We simply had outgrown the old office located in the courthouse with no areas to expand. [In] this new office we have two deputies per office other than administrative offices, we have a conference room that also works as an interview room, a separate evidence room, and a workout area for weightlifting.”
The sheriff’s office says that the new facility is completely secure in that you have to wait to be authorized to enter the building, there are security cameras throughout the facility, and unlike in the Barbour County Courthouse, one cannot walk through the actual Sheriff’s Office without authorization.
The new facility will bare no cost to the taxpayers of Barbour County, according to the BCSO.
The Sheriff’s Department Staff and Maintenance Department completed all of the work so no tax dollars were used.
The sheriff’s office says that they painted, repaired, fixed lights and moved furniture and that they owe a lot of appreciation to World Vision as they provided almost all of the furniture people will see in the new Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff of Barbour County will still hold the Tax Office in the courthouse. All paying of taxes, registration stickers and concealed carry applications will still be at the courthouse and that will not change.
Process Serving and Court Security will still be located in the courthouse as well as the new office is occupied by law enforcement only.
“We want to thank the citizens of Barbour County for always supporting us! Without you, our County Commissioners, Mr. Jamie Carpenter, Mr. David Strait, and Mr. Jed Schola, and County Administrator Shana Frey, none of this would be possible,” the BCSO stated.
