Charleston – Regardless of class the result is still the same
Bridgeport rallied from a 3-1 deficit Saturday afternoon at Power Park in Charleston to beat Hurricane 10-4, claiming the Class AAA title in the process.
The title is the seventh consecutive one for the program with the previous six coming in Class AA.
Once the Indians started scoring, they never stopped.
Striking in the third inning, Bridgeport made it a 2-1 game but Hurricane answered in the bottom of the frame to go up 3-1. Bridgeport took command in the next three innings, scoring three runs each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, stealing bases and capitalizing on Hurricane errors.
Ryan Goff was stellar in relief for Bridgeport, allowing just one run after starter Ben McDougal gave up three in 2.2 innings of work.
Nate Paulsen and Drew Hogue led the Indians with two runs each. Hogue drove in three runs in the win.
Bridgeport finishes the season 33-3 while Hurricane finishes at 31-2 with its third runner-up finish in four seasons.
