PINEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Canvasses for the Wyoming County Municipal Elections were held on Tuesday, and the results of the Pineville elections appear to remain essentially unchanged.
The Canvass, conducted under the direction of Lee Dean with the WV Secretary of State’s Office, saw each candidate amass additional votes, though none of these developments were significant enough to alter the final result.
Mayoral candidates Toby Lane and Jason Smyth each accrued additional votes, with Lane’s 7 provisional votes and 2 absentee votes bringing his total to 102, and Smyth’s 12 provisional votes bringing his total to 98.
Barring any developments over the course of the next two days, Lane appears to be primed to assume the mayoral office after sitting Mayor Mike Kodak declined to file to retain the seat.
Town Recorder Vicki Knight Clay retains her position in an unopposed run, with her 131 votes being brought to 146 with the inclusion of 13 provisional votes and 2 absentee votes.
Each candidate for Town Council received 2 absentee votes as a result of the Canvass, with several provisional votes being factored in as well.
Election Canvass results are certified 48 hours from reporting barring a recount request from a candidate or candidates. Candidates may submit a written request and bond for a recount during this period.
The results of the Election Canvass, which remain uncertified for the time being, are as follows:
Mayor:
Toby Lane – 102
Jason Smyth – 98
Town Recorder:
Vicki Knight Clay – 146
Town Council:
Debbie Bowling – 159
Debbie Wiles – 152
Brian Mitchell – 147
Sonja Davis – 139
Mike Clay – 139
The Pineville Town Council will reconvene on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 11:40am at the Town Hall Council Chambers. Any candidate looking to request a recount must provide their written request and bond to Town Recorder Vicki Knight Clay by this time.
