FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two parents are in jail facing child neglect charges after giving a teenager marijuana and having to drive her mother around after she passed out due to being high.
According to court documents, Troopers were called to investigate a complaint of child neglect and contribute to a minor’s delinquency. A young teenage girl alleges that Melissa Redden and Kurt Redden used drugs and became high daily. The young teenager was allegedly provided marijuana. It is alleged that Ms. Redden would sell most of their belongings and her methadone treatment and use her child support money to support her drug habit. The young teenager advised that rarely was any food available to her and would occasionally eat beans. Kurt Redden provided the young teenager with marijuana and introduced her to smoking it. She also advised that her mother would become so high and fall asleep while driving, so the teenager would have to drive them home.
Melissa Redden was charged with child neglect creating the risk of injury, while Kurt Redden was charged with child neglect and contributing to a child’s delinquency.
Melissa is out on bond, while Kurt is being held in SRJ under a 25,000 dollar bond.
