FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Fayette County man has been sentenced to prison on felony charges in relation to conspiracy to deliver illegal substances.
According to Fayette County Prosecuting Attorney, Anthony Ciliberti, Jr., on November 21, 2022, a traffic stop was initiated by an Oak Hill Police Officer on routine patrols along Route 19. While interacting with the driver of the vehicle, the officer reports having detected the scent of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.
The driver reportedly consented to a search of the vehicle upon request, and this search led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine and heroin inside the vehicle. Subsequent laboratory testing is said to have determined the substances found to have been 104 grams of methamphetamine and 3.5 grams of fentanyl.
On November 13, 2023, Fayette County Circuit Judge Paul M. Blake, Jr., sentenced James K. Chapman – 45 years old of Mt. Carbon, WV – to a ten year determinate sentence for the felony offense of conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine.
Judge Blake also ordered the sentence to run consecutive to a prison sentence imposed upon Chapman in a separate criminal case out of Fayette County. Chapman pled guilty to the offense in question on September 1, 2023, and must serve a minimum of two and half years in prison before potentially becoming eligible for parole.
These crimes were investigated by the Oak Hill Police Department and the case was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Amy McLaughlin.
