HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Three City of Huntington firefighters have successfully completed the U.S. Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship program, according to city officials.
The West Virginia Professional Firefighters Certification Board of Apprenticeship and Training has notified the department’s training division that firefighters Patrick Aaron Childers, Garrett M. Scheibelhood and Brennan Keith Simpkins completed their final examination process and are now eligible for certification as Journeymen.
The program consists of 3,000 hours of formal instruction and 3,000 hours of supervised, on-the-job training. Completion of the program certifies that the firefighters have met the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 standard.
“I extend my thanks and congratulations to these firefighters for their hard work on this accomplishment,” Mayor Steve Williams said.
“This important step is a laudable feat and a requirement for advancement in the department.”
