HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Huntington’s annual program to waive penalties assessed on certain late municipal fees is currently underway, now through June 30, 2023.
This amnesty period applies to the waiving of penalties that have accrued due to the delinquency of payment of Huntington’s municipal/fire protection and refuse fees.
However, not everyone in every situation will qualify:
- The penalty waiver only applies to owner-occupied properties. Most rental properties are not eligible.
- Per Internal Revenue Service rules, the waiver has no effect on principal and/or interest owed.
- Property owners must pay the principal amount owed in full to have penalties waived.
- The owner must not have participated in the City of Huntington‘s annual delinquent amnesty program and had their penalties waived within the past 10 years.
- The owner, in the event of a lien being placed on the property, will be expected to pay the lien interest and related court costs, along with the principal amounts due for fire protection and refuse fees. Only the actual penalties will be waived.
- The property must not be under contract for sale during the amnesty period.
