MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A son took his mother’s car for a joyride without her consent in Princeton.
James Brooks, 35, was accused of taking his mother’s car around 10:00 am on June 21, 2021, without her permission to Beckley to visit friends. The mother called the police to complain that her son would not give her white Ford Taurus back. Authorities contacted Brooks through his mother’s cell phone and told him to return the car immediately. Brooks told the officer he would.
The trooper contacted Mercer County 911 and put out a “bolo” on the victim’s vehicle. At around 11:30 am, the trooper went to the mother’s house to check the car’s status. The victim stated that Brooks did not return her vehicle.
“Ms. Miller stated the accused call her and stated he ‘didn’t give a f*** about this trooper and would do what he wanted to,'” said the report.
Later an argument ensued between the victim and accused. The victim told her son he could not use her cell phone or vehicle. Brooks became violent and shook the victim’s chair until she fell on the floor. The trooper asked the victim if this was the first time Brooks had put her in fear for her life. She responded, “No.”
On June 19, 2021, Brooks shoved the victim down as he tried to leave with her cell phone and vehicle. The mother and daughter gave statements to the troopers about both incidents. The trooper checked the suspect’s driving record and learned that Brooks’ license was revoked from a DUI and unpaid citations.
Brooks is charged with petit larceny, unlawful taking of a vehicle, driving while license is suspended or revoked, domestic violence, and domestic assault.
