GLEN JEAN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – During the month of February, America’s newest national park saw an increase in visitation compared to February of 2022.
According to data from the National Park Service, the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve saw 42,210 visitors during February compared to 39,219 last February a 7.6% increase.
The Canyon Rim Visitor also saw a decent increase in visitors during February. Canyon Rim recorded a total of 16,485 visitors compared to 14,268 visitors last February which is a 15.5% total increase.
The Glade Creek area of the park located near Prince which has somewhat been an underrated area of the park saw a significant increase in visitation during February. 1,695 visitors rolled through the Glade Creek area last month compared to 1,059 during February 2022.
The Fern Creek rock climbing area also saw a jump in visitors. 3,179 climbers were recorded last month, up from 2,753 last February, a 15.5% increase.
Overnight tent stays within the park remained the same as in February 2022.
During this fiscal year to date, the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve has recorded a total of 368,161 visitors.
