BECKLEY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – During Tuesday’s regular meeting, the Raleigh County Commission approved the purchase of new voting machines for all 80 precincts located in the county.
According to Raleigh County Commission President David Tolliver, the total amount of the contract is $1.963 million.
The county will receive a $380,755 discount for trading in their old voting machines, leaving $1,582,520 to be financed.
Tolliver said the county will be putting $399,000 down, and the remaining $1.1 million will be equally distributed over a four-year period.
Raleigh County Administrator Jay Quesenberry expressed his excitement for the change.
“It’s a completely new system and a really great system. It is a lot more modern and has a lot of safeguards built in,” he said. “The company has just improved the technology.”
The commission will be purchasing 350 new machines.
