BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – On Tuesday, the Raleigh County Commissioners convened for a session at which the solar farm project which has been in motion for some time was a topic of discussion.
Mention of the project can be traced back to 2021 and beyond, though progress has been slow to develop for a number of reasons.
Tuesday, item 5.5 of the Regular Session Agenda saw the approval of a permit extension for Raleigh Solar Conditional Use.
“Originally we approved a conditional use through the Board of Zoning Appeals for Raleigh Solar LLC to present the solar farm,” explained Commission Attorney Bill Roop. “Due to [being] unable to obtain the equipment and [being] unable to have AEP do their work, they’re requesting a one-year extension and I would recommend that.”
Commission President Dave Tolliver was addressed by a representative who discussed the extension request in greater detail.
“The biggest issue that we have is that AEP is not ready for us to get the connection ready,” he said. “They’re not going to be ready until next year, so that’s why we’re requesting the additional year on the conditional use permit.”
The request saw approval, along with the poll workers for the November General Election and Trick-or-Treat times for Raleigh County.
