BECKLEY, WV- (LOOTPRESS)- The race for the 16th District of the West Virginia State Senate has been officially called for Republican incumbent Patricia Rucker (R). Rucker, the Senate Majority Chair for Education, defeated challenger Pete Dougherty (D) by 4%. Rucker, who first ran to represent West Virginia’s 6th Senate District in 2016, will be serving her second term as a Senator for 16th District.
Lootpress spoke to Rucker upon the news of her win, and Rucker said, “I am humbled that my constituents have continued to support me and I am eager to keep moving the state of West Virginia in right direction.”
As the Majority Chair for the Senate Committee on Education, Rucker has championed legislative accomplishments including working for foster care reform and passing the omnibus education reform bill during a June 2019 special session.
When asked about her plans for her upcoming term, Rucker said “I look forward to pushing for more education and regulatory reform, helping our state recover from the recent economic downturn, and helping the people of West Virginia continue to thrive in our state”.
