MOUNT HOPE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Things are looking up for Mount Hope as the town has received a $3 million grant notification thanks to U.S. Senators Shelly Moore Capito and Joe Manchin which will be used to fund an amphitheater, RV park, and renovated sports park.
The news was revealed at last Tuesday’s council meeting where a map of the future projects was presented. Mount Hope Mayor Micheal Kessinger says that this is exciting news for the town.
“We’re really excited, this will be a revitalization for Mount Hope,” Kessinger said. “With the designation of the [national] park and all the excitement there with the Summit and the folks that they bring in, it will definitely fit.”
Kessinger says that the current Mount Hope Stadium will be converted into the amphitheater that will be able to accommodate large crowds. He said that this will allow the town to bring in more entertainment options for the community.
The proposed RV park will be located in the Bailey Bottom area of Mount Hope.
Graney Memorial Park will also be getting a total makeover. The sports complex at the park will include a new football and soccer field, basketball court, tennis court, t-ball court, and pickle ball court. A new trail system will also be constructed through in the area along Sugar Creek.
The renovations will also include the construction of a splashpad and playground themed to be medieval and castle themed to tie into the historic stadium aesthetic.
Carrie Kidd, Director of the Fayette County Community Arts Center in Mount Hope and President of Harmony for Hope says she is thankful that the city is looking for ways to better Mount Hope.
“Mayor Kessinger has been instrumental in seeing the town move forward progressively since taking leadership. The City council has been supportive of public works projects that promote our local arts and heritage,” Kidd said. “With the stabilization of the stadium, our area will see the addition of a music venue. One day in the near future the town of Mount Hope will be a well-rounded cultural escape, for tourists and locals alike.”
Dates for construction and renovations have not yet been set.
