CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – On Monday, the West Virginia State Senate passed a bill that would require substance use disorder inpatient providers to provide transportation to its patients.
Senate Bill 243, introduced by Senator Mike Azinger (R-Wood), would assist individuals in their recovery by allowing transportation back to a certain location after being discharged.
According to the bill, residential substance use disorder service facilities in West Virginia must offer their patients a means of transportation back to the individual’s state of birth, a state in which they have previously lived, or a state where they have a family support structure.
The bill passed on a 32-0 vote with two members absent. Senate Bill 243 now goes to the House of Delegates for consideration.
