TAZEWELL COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Due to an increasingly disproportionate number of students and staff suffering from various illnesses, in-person learning for Tazewell County Schools has been cancelled until at least Tuesday.
The news, announced on Thursday through an official release from Tazewell County Schools, comes on the heels of “a large increase in the amount of confirmed cases of flu, strep throat, Covid, and general respiratory inflammation that has impacted our school population.”
In lieu of in-person learning, Tazewell County Schools has announced that they will be moving to their virtual learning platform for Friday, December 9, 2022, and Monday, December 12, 2022.
The decision, it is said, has been implemented as a means of capping the spread of the aforementioned illnesses while still affording students the opportunity to carry on with their studies.
“This move will allow our students to continue with their educational program while also easing any community spread,” read the release in part.
The announcement goes on to assure that there is no outbreak about which families should be concerned, but that the impact of various illnesses – many of which are exacerbated during this time of year – is becoming a hinderance to the functionality of the school itself.
“While there is no ‘outbreak’ of any particular illness, the amount of illness is directly impacting our ability to provide transportation and other school functions.”
Tazewell County Schools will operate on a virtual learning platform for Friday and Monday.
