BECKLEY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – Earlier this week, volunteers worked to clear up the Piney Creek Trails in Beckley. The initiative was organized by the Stewards Individual Placement Program, which initiates projects across the country that build capacity, improve solutions, empower leaders and develop opportunities for service and economic development.
According to event leaders, 22 volunteers showed up and spent a chilly “Volunteer Morning” cleaning the trails. Members of the Piney Creek Watershed Association also participated. Together they raked autumn leaves off the trails to keep them accessible into the winter seasons.
“The group cleared nearly five miles of trails, including the Ship Rock Loop and most of the Old Farm Trail, and finished the day with a lunch of homemade beans and cornbread,” stated organizers. “We were glad to see volunteers from West Virginia University Institute of Technology and Beckley Rotary Club included in our mix!”
Stewards East hosts monthly volunteer opportunities with various partners near its Beckley office.
