FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Beckley man is facing charges in Fayette County. Sheriff Mike Fridley provides the following information regarding this incident.
Just after midnight, deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash on WV Rt 612 after the driver’s phone notified 911 of the apparent crash. When deputies arrived, they found the driver to be unharmed, and some DOH property had been damaged. When gathering information for the crash report, deputies found the driver to have a revoked license as well, and he was on federal parole for narcotics distribution. This led to a deeper investigation by deputies that ultimately led to a K9 search of the vehicle, where a bag of marijuana and two bags of suspected fentanyl were found.
Leon E. Smith Jr, 43, of Beckley, was charged with the felony offense of Possession with Intent To Distribute Narcotics and the misdemeanor offenses of Driving Revoked DUI, Failure to Maintain Control, and No Proof of Insurance. Smith was transported to Southern Regional Jail pending further court proceedings.
