WELCH, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office has announced that it will be hosting a beginner handgun safety course next month.
According to a release from the department, the course – which will be geared toward those unfamiliar with firearms – will focus primarily on the use of pistols, and will impart the basic fundamentals of shooting and handgun safety.
An NRA certified handgun instructor and NRA Range Safety Officers will be on hand for the course, which will count toward concealed carry license requirements for those working toward certification.
The class will take place rain or shine, and will require participants to provide their own ammunition due to an ammunition shortage.
Seating for the course is limited, and the 10 available spots will be filled on a first come first serve basis.
The course will begin in a classroom setting, and will conclude at the shooting range.
The course will be held at the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office classroom on August 13, 2022 at 10:00am.
Those interested in participating may sign up by calling (304) 436-8523, or reaching out through the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page here. Past LOOTPRESS coverage of local firearms safety courses can be found here.Â
