MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia Head Coach Neal Brown expressed his confidence in the Mountaineers’ ability to finish the season ranked in the Top 25 during his post-game press conference following their Duke’s Mayo Bowl victory over North Carolina, 30-10.
Brown’s optimism stems from the team’s strong performance this season, which culminated in a 9-4 record and a bowl game win on Wednesday night in Charlotte.
“I think we should end the season in the top 25,” Brown declared. “I’ve got a vote and I’ll vote us in.” He further bolstered his claim by pointing to the team’s potential for a pre-season Top 25 ranking, stating, “I think as we go into the ’24 season, I think we’re a team that’ll be preseason in the top 25. We return a lot, and I’m excited about that.”
Brown’s confidence appears to be grounded in several factors. The Mountaineers displayed resilience throughout the season, winning their last game and overcoming challenges like a disappointing loss to Oklahoma and close calls against Houston and Oklahoma State.
The team boasts a strong returning roster, including key players like running back James Williams and young receivers who stepped up in the bowl game.
Brown highlighted the team’s physicality and defensive prowess, which were on full display during the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
While acknowledging that the upcoming season will bring new challenges, Brown expressed his belief in the team’s ability to handle them. He emphasized the importance of maintaining roster continuity and building upon the momentum gained from the successful 2023 season.
Coach Neal Brown’s post-game press conference painted a picture of a West Virginia Mountaineers team poised for continued success in the upcoming season.
